The North Texas Super Bowl Committee just announced the logo for Super Bowl XLV yesterday, which will become the core, permanent logo template for future Super Bowls. I do have some mixed feelings about this logo. An NFL official that was at the unveiling mentioned that the logo for the Super Bowl changes every year ever since its inception, and they decided to finally make a permanent logo for the big game.
They also wanted a logo that in-signifies what the game was all about. You can watch the unveiling of the logo here. However, there is one familiar touch that’s been in recent Super Bowl logos that will be kept in this permanent logo is the font. The text will be using the same font that was used in previous insignias. I however, don’t know the name to the font. I’ve looked everywhere for the font. But if anybody knows the name of the font, give me a holla. Before I go onto my rant on the logo, here’s a picture of it:

What Are Your Thoughts On The Logo?
The logo has a steel look to match with the Lombardi Trophy. I can see where there getting at on how the logo defines the big game, but seems a little too bland. I like the logo, don’t get me wrong, but I think they could’ve done a better job coming up with a core logo for the Super Bowl. It looks fine when was stamped on a football, but I don’t know about the jersey patches, how it’ll look and what’ll look on a jersey. I think they could think of a core logo template kind of like the Stanley Cup Finals of the NHL, but more simpler. I do like the metallic style for it, which shows the importance of the game. The cool thing about this core logo is that it’ll display the venue where the Super Bowl is being held at, like SB XLV will be at Cowboy Stadium and SB XLVI will be at Lucas Oil Stadium. So pretty much the only change in this logo will be the stadium and the roman numerals. Overall, it’s an OK logo concept for the Super Bowl.
So, what are your thoughts?
UPDATE #1: I’ve also found out that the conference trophies will get new designs, as well as the conference logos in order to tie-in the three big games into one brand. I also wouldn’t be surprised that they’ll make a similar logo for the Pro Bowl. I’ll also critique the NFC and AFC Conference Championship logos when those are revealed.
