As “Fat” PS3 owners (I myself own the big-ass piece of contraption) and non-PS3ers know about the Error 8001050F Saga, or as I like to coin the name of this saga in PlayStation’s history, the PS3 Clock Glitch Saga, just to give it a fancy, more meaningful name. Many owners of the Fat-ass PS3 discovered that their system’s clock made a hard reset to December 31st, 1999, and for those that were playing a game with trophies during that time, pretty much found out that their trophy collection to that game were corrupted. Thus, their trophy data is lost and is not retrievable. You can see a clear example in the above video where one of the IGN employees was playing God of War III on the Fat PS3 and noticed that the entire trophy collection to GOW3 has been corrupted.
However, though, owners of the Slim PS3 were not affected by this glitch, making me pretty jealous of those bastards… just kidding
.
Fortunately for me though, I didn’t play any games at the time, so all of my trophy collections were not corrupted and glad I synced my trophies before the glitch occurred.
Sony made a statement yesterday that they found a bug within the internal clock, which the clock thought that this year was a leap year, which in fact that the next leap year occurs in 2012. Luckily, Sony fixed the bug last night; so everything is good as gold and back to normal.
However, the PS3 Clock Glitch Saga will be etched in every PS3 owner’s minds for years to come, including the minds of those that own the Slim PS3. So yes, February 28th, 2010 is the day will live in infamy.
So with that out the way, I like to add another tidbit of PlayStation news. PlayStation.com just recently launched its new crib. The new site is more sleekish, more robust, and fits the style more than the previous site look. I really like how they designed it, especially on the front page where they have the large dynamic lead/spotlight underneath the main content area, navigation and the PSN login box. The navigation, dynamic lead and PSN login box are all Flash files and they managed to get those layered on top of one another in DIV tags, so I tip my hat to the designers of this new PlayStation site.
