Nebraska Chancellor: School Ready To Switch Conferences

News,Opinions,Sports 28 April 2010 | 0 Comments

Even though that Jim Delany announced that he’s sticking to the 12-18 month time table on expansion, Nebraska Chancellor Harvey Perlman told Omaha.com in an article that the University of Nebraska is ready and willing to join another conference if an opportunity presents itself. Both him and AD Tom Osborne are together on this and ready for potential course of action.

Perlman is the only known university official who has express interest in joining another conference if asked to join. He also states that he would like to see the Big 12 to succeed, but doesn’t rule out Nebraska moving to another conference and will act in interest of Nebraska.

He was asked by many questions pertaining to the Big Ten, and responded that there are advantages and disadvantages by joining the Big Ten. He listed on the disadvantage of recruiting procedures, owning stake in the Big Ten Network and traveling expenses.

On the subject of AAU (Association of American Universities) members, he said that “It would be extremely unlikely for the Big Ten to select a school that wasn’t a member of the AAU.” Notre Dame that a lot of people say that the Big Ten is still targeting will likely not be involved in expansion this time around because it’s a non-AAU member.
