Just this past Thursday, The Michigan State Department of Athletics announced and unveiled new uniforms for all of the sports the university is currently participating in. This was a joint project between MSU and Nike that took 2 years to work on, which to me is a long time just to figure out a consistent theme. Anywho, all uniforms have a consistent theme with one another, with the same color scheme, logos and lettering and number font type that was just created for the university.
I stumbled upon this piece of news yesterday when looking at the Big Ten blog at ESPN.com. I’ve read the press release, video and photo gallery of the new unis and thought that this is a good look for the Spartans. The main color, Green, is a more darker color than the current color they have, and this color was created specifically for them, called Spartan Green. They’ll be keeping white, along with newer additional colors. The newer colors are silver and Spartan Bronze (again, another color specifically made for MSU) which are accent colors for the letters and numbers. However, they’ll still keeping the original Spartan Helmet logo, not the proposed new Spartan Helmet that was released a few months ago which I liked, even though it kind of resembled something that came from “300″. That proposed logo can be seeing here.
Now onto the font face. The font on the new unis is a great match for the school, and it resembles that aggressiveness and nature of a Spartan. I’m not sure if they gave the name of this particular font in the video that I watched yesterday, but I’ll definitely make a shout out whenever I know the name of the font.
About logos, they did reveal another logo, the Spartan Shield. This logo is more of a prestigious-type logo for the alums and the school. They’ll also have it on the sides of the uniforms. I couldn’t find a straight-on, vector logo online, but found a picture of a patch of this logo which is displayed below:

This logo contains all of the colors, including the new accent colors.
I’ve also inserted an image below this post showing three different uniforms for Spartan football. While looking at the new football uniforms, I’ve discovered that the Spartans will be using the new Nike Pro Combat Uniforms; Ohio State is the other school in the Big Ten that has Nike Pro Combat Uniforms that were worn against Michigan last football season.
But overall, I like these new designs for Michigan State. Makes everything more consistent and defines what the school is about. This could be the start to where other Big Ten schools could do the same for its Athletic Department. If they do, I hope Iowa is part of it, cause I would like to see some new, consistent uniform theme for the Hawkeyes, along with the same font, logos and color scheme, especially with the Nike Pro Combat Uniforms for the football program, I would definitely like to see those.
So… what are your thoughts?
