Big XII Literally Becomes A Zombie Conference
Practically within a few days, Dan Beebe, the Big XII Commissioner did a sales pitch to Texas and the remaining 10 schools in the Big 12 saying that the conference will be making more money when a new TV contract comes and that Texas will be able to create its own TV Network and keep all of the money from that, which they wouldn’t be able to in the Pac-10, if they went there.
The remaining schools in the Big 12 decide to stick with each other without Colorado and Nebraska. However, like me and other people around the interwebs have speculated that this might become a short term thing that’ll end up in smoke, and the conference will be back to where it was last week. So right now, the Big 12 Conference has become a Zombie Conference.
Why calling it a Zombie Conference? Simple, because Dan Beebe’s sales pitch was sold only with purported money in mind and a guesstimated theory of how much the schools will make in the new 10-school Big 12. Practically, the pitch is nothing but an assumption. The schools I think literally took Beebe’s bait, to only find out a few years later that Beebe’s pitch in 2010 was nothing but a crock.
Could a new Big 12 workout? Maybe, we’ll just see what happens on how the new pitch will work in all of this. I won’t be a bit surprised if one of the schools starts bickering about the new pitch and that they’re still not getting enough money… *cough* Missouri *cough*.
With Big 12 down to 10 schools now, will it be able to keep its conference championship game for football? Will reports suggest they still want to have one, and will try to change NCAA’s rules of a conference having 12 to 10 schools to have a conference championship game for football.
So, in the mean time, let’s just see how far this Zombie Conference can go.
